Hard to be a God

Hard to be a God is a disgusting production from the PROTON Theatre (Budapest) about young women trafficked for sex. It presents rape, murder, torture, urination and buggery on stage or on live video. I’ve never seen anything as offensive as this.

The producers will tell you that they’re making an artistic point. Anyone who works in the theater can tell you that’s nonsense. It’s no mystery why a company would produce this merde - it’s infinitely easier to make a name for yourself by being vulgar than by being artistic. The mystery is why the Pilsen Festivals Artistic Board, whose taste is otherwise impeccable, would present it.
